So, 'Merbabies' is one of those charming little shorts from the late '30s. Directed by Rudolf Ising, it’s part of the Silly Symphonies series that Disney was running at the time. The animation is very fluid and colorful, capturing the essence of an underwater playground. You see these merbabies frolicking among seahorses and starfish, which gives it a whimsical and lighthearted vibe. The pacing is pretty well done; it flows nicely without dragging on. I find the practical effects—especially how they animate water and marine life—really impressive for its time. It feels like a delightful escape into an aquatic world, with a touch of innocence and joy that’s hard to find in today’s animations.
Great example of early Disney animation.Showcases unique underwater effects.Part of the Silly Symphonies series.
