The film follows Eero Koskinen, an office clerk who chooses a life of drinking over his responsibilities to his wife and children. His nights are spent reminiscing about his war experiences with friends, which leads to a two-week binge that costs him his job. This loss complicates his life further, as Eero's reputation makes it difficult to find new employment.

As Eero attempts to confront his alcoholism, he spends time in a rehab center but struggles to achieve lasting change. Meanwhile, his wife is forced to step into the workforce, taking a job with her old sweetheart, who has become a successful businessman after his recent divorce. The film addresses the complex dynamics of family, addiction, and the search for redemption.
