Montevergine

The story follows a blacksmith from Montevergine who flees to Argentina after being accused of murder. Years later, a mute witness comes forward to testify in his favor, leading to his acquittal. However, just before he returns home, an Argentine woman plants opium in his luggage, resulting in a decade-long prison sentence.

Upon his release, he discovers that his daughter is engaged to a wealthy landowner who had falsely accused him. This revelation ignites a desire for vengeance, but during his visit to the Marian Shrine, he chooses to lay down his weapon and seek peace instead.
