My Family Tree

The film follows sixteen-year-old student Jānis, who is tasked with drawing his family tree and explaining its significance. His exploration reveals the diverse lives of his ancestors, starting with his great-great-grandfather who played a pivotal role in the 1905 revolution against German landowners.

Through Jānis’ journey, viewers learn about a rich Latvian trader, a red rifleman loyal to Lenin, a carpenter connected to the KGB, and war refugees who settled in Sweden. Each branch of his family tree tells a unique story, highlighting the varied fates and experiences of his lineage.
