Namibia - Return to a New Country

Starting in 1979, nearly 2,000 children were evacuated from Namibia and neighboring countries to escape the violence of civil war. The German Democratic Republic accepted almost 500 of these children for protection and education, offering them a new life away from the turmoil. In 1990, with Namibia's independence, these children were returned, facing challenges of reintegration into their homeland.

The documentary features interviews with young people who reflect on their childhoods spent in East Germany. Their stories provide insight into the struggles of fitting into a society that had changed significantly during their absence. The film captures a unique historical moment, linking the fate of these children to broader themes of political change and personal identity in post-colonial Africa.
