No Tomorrow

No Tomorrow is a video installation that combines the talents of director Ragnar Kjartansson, choreographer Margrét Bjarnadóttir, and composer Bryce Dessner. This documentary spans six screens that encircle the viewing space, creating an immersive environment filled with a performance of spatial music. The installation showcases eight dancers playing eight guitars, and it captures their movements and melodies as they transition from serene pastoral themes to energetic rock and roll.

The work draws on a variety of classic Western references, including blue jeans and white t-shirts, alongside the aesthetic of mid-20th century song and dance films. The installation also incorporates lyrical elements from the Archaic Greek poet Sappho and adventurer Vivant Denon, blending historical figures with contemporary performance. This combination of music, dance, and visual art invites viewers to reconsider notions of idealization and iconography.
