Nocturne 29

This is Portabella's first feature film, co-written with poet Joan Brossa. It is known for its non-narrative structure, using fragmented imagery to explore the lives of an adulterous couple. The film avoids traditional dialogue, instead presenting a series of cryptic visuals that challenge conventional storytelling.

Nocturne 29 pays homage to influential filmmakers such as Eisenstein, Antonioni, Bergman, and Buñuel. Its title references the 29 years of the Franco dictatorship in Spain, contributing to its significance in the context of Spanish cinema. This film circulated primarily in underground settings, making it a unique artifact of its era.
