Nomitori Samurai is this offbeat comedy that really plays with the juxtaposition of samurai culture and absurdity. Hironoshin, our rather naive protagonist, finds himself in deep trouble after calling out a poem for plagiarism at a high-society gathering. The humor is quite dry, but there's this underlying tension that builds up nicely, especially with Tadakiyo's character, who is unyielding and a bit tyrannical. The pacing feels somewhat erratic, bouncing between moments of introspection and chaotic social antics. The performances stand out, particularly in how they lean into the absurdity of samurai life. It’s not your typical samurai flick—there's a strange charm in its blend of cultural critique and hilarity that just sticks with you.
