November Child

The film follows Anne, a young woman in 1980 Malchow, who hides Juri, a deserter from the Red Army. Their burgeoning love faces dire consequences, including an arrest warrant and potential death sentence for Juri. In a desperate bid for freedom, they flee to the West, leaving Anne's infant daughter, Inga, behind with her grandparents.

As Inga grows up believing her mother died in a swimming accident, her life takes a turn when she meets literature professor Robert. Their encounter sparks a journey into Inga's past, as Robert helps her uncover the truth about her mother. This narrative weaves together personal and historical elements, illustrating the complexities of family ties and the search for identity in a divided Germany.
