The story takes place in a small town where a theatrical performance is in preparation. Central to the tale are two sisters, Kačenka and Barborka, alongside Jakub, a musician and Barborka's jealous boyfriend. The plot thickens with the arrival of Bořivoj Hájek z Hájku, a miserly lord, and his eccentric brother Ignác, who is an inventor and researcher. Their interactions with the ghostly guards of the treasure add layers of humor and suspense, creating a dynamic narrative.
