The story centers on Bruce Sands, a dilettante artist with a penchant for romantic escapades. When Bunny Winston, his latest love interest, proposes marriage, Bruce retreats to the country home of his friend John Woodward. Unbeknownst to Bruce, Woodward has his own plans to marry Bunny, leading to a tangled web of relationships and misunderstandings.

As the plot unfolds, Bruce finds himself flirting with Woodward's daughter, Audrey. An accident leads Bruce to promise marriage to Audrey under the mistaken belief that she is gravely ill.
