Old Boat and Young Love

The film follows the story of Heinrich Borchert, a stubborn skipper who resists the changes of the new era. Despite the advice of his friend Hermann and the protests of his son Karl, Heinrich takes on more cargo than is safe to pay off debts on his barge, the "Marie." He hopes to secure a better future for Karl, who dreams of a life beyond the burdens of the boat.
