On the Eve

Set against a backdrop of social and political upheaval, On the Eve tells the story of Elena Nikolaevna Stakhova. She is from a noble family and harbors lofty ideals about heroism. Her journey takes a turn when she falls in love with Insarov, a Bulgarian student and a commoner democrat. Their love story unfolds as they face challenges related to their differing social statuses and the struggle for freedom in Bulgaria.

Elena dedicates herself entirely to Insarov, supporting him on his difficult path. As they plan to leave for Bulgaria after their wedding, they are confronted with the harsh realities of their ambitions. Tragically, Insarov dies before they can reach his homeland, marking a poignant end to their aspirations. This film, produced by Dovzhenko Film Studios and Boyana Film Studios, captures the emotional weight of love intertwined with the quest for freedom.
