On Three Posters

This film originated from a multi-media performance called Three Posters, conceived and staged by Mroué and Lebanese novelist Elias Khoury. First performed in Beirut in 2000, the performance utilized an unedited tape made by Jamal al-Sati, a fighter for Lebanon’s National Resistance Front.

The film presents three ‘takes’ of al-Sati's martyr testimony, contrasting them with the approved version aired on Lebanese television. Through this exploration, Mroué and Khoury question the status of suicide videos and martyr posters, delving into the ideological circumstances surrounding their production.

On Three Posters engages with significant themes in Lebanon's visual culture and offers insights into the political history of the region. The documentary format provides an opportunity for collectors to appreciate the film's artistic and historical context.
