Opera di Roma: Turandot

This production presents Puccini’s classic opera in three acts, originally composed in 1926. Ai Weiwei, known for his impactful art, makes his operatic debut with this interpretation, which offers a fresh perspective on the narrative of the cruel princess Turandot and her suitor.

The performance features Ukrainian soprano Oksana Dyka as Turandot and American tenor Michael Fabiano in his role debut as the brave suitor. The music, characterized by its ominous tones, immerses the audience in a world filled with uncertainty and tension, emphasizing the darker elements of the story.

Conductor Oksana Lyniv leads the orchestra, enhancing the experience with powerful renditions of Puccini's score. Notably, this staging omits the ending traditionally added by Franco Alfano, providing a unique take on this well-known opera.
