Orange County is a bit of a mixed bag but definitely captures that laid-back California vibe. Shaun, played by a young Colin Hanks, really does embody that surfer-dreamer aesthetic. Jake Kasdan's direction gives it this breezy pacing, but it hits on some deeper family dysfunction themes that resonate. The supporting cast, including Jack Black and John Lithgow, brings a lot of life to their quirky roles. There’s this nice contrast between Shaun’s aspirations and the chaos of his home life. It’s not a heavy film, but it feels oddly relatable, like a snapshot of those awkward teen years. It’s more about the journey than the destination, which I appreciate. Plus, the soundtrack captures the era nicely.
