OUTSIDER tells the story of Maury Ornest, a man whose aspirations of becoming a baseball star were derailed by schizophrenia. The film follows his sister Laura as she navigates the challenges of Maury's destructive behavior while trying to maintain family bonds. After Maury's passing at age 58, Laura uncovers over 1400 pieces of his artwork and writings, revealing the depth of his inner turmoil and the role painting played in his life.

Voiced by comedian Gary Gulman, the narrative unfolds visually through Maury's art and writings. This documentary presents an honest portrayal of a family's journey through mental illness, emphasizing the struggles and triumphs they faced along the way.
