The film follows Eliza, a strong and independent Polish teacher in a village school, who embarks on a tumultuous affair with local delinquent Stach. Their relationship leads to the birth of an out-of-wedlock child. However, when Stach is sent away for forced labor in Germany, Eliza, determined to reunite with him, sets out on an epic journey with her child.
