So, 'Party of Fools' is set in this hauntingly atmospheric Paris of 1894, which really pulls you in from the get-go. The way it portrays the women's mental institution as both a place of oppression and unexpected camaraderie is pretty striking. Fanni, our lead, is searching for her mother, but it’s more about her journey through these layers of madness and defiance. You can feel the tension build as she meets these incredible women who challenge societal norms. The pacing has this slow burn that really digs into the emotional weight of their stories. The performances are raw and compelling, making each character feel real and relatable. It’s not your typical historical drama for sure.
