Percy's Progress is this quirky British comedy that dives into some pretty outrageous territory. The plot follows Percy, the first man to undergo a penis transplant, who stumbles upon a rather absurd twist involving a water supply that renders men impotent. The film has this oddball charm, with a blend of cheeky humor and a surprisingly thoughtful commentary on masculinity and societal pressure. The pacing is a bit uneven, but it kind of adds to the whimsical feel. Not to mention, the practical effects used for the transplant scenes are a funny mix of crude and inventive. The performances have a certain lovable awkwardness, which really gives it character.
This film has had a somewhat limited release history, and finding a decent copy can be a bit of a treasure hunt for collectors. It was released on VHS and later on DVD, but its availability is sporadic at best. Interest seems to spike around discussions of its unique premise and absurd humor, making it a curious piece in any collector's catalog. Itβs not the easiest to track down, so it holds a certain allure for those interested in the more obscure corners of 1970s cinema.
