Philip Glass: Satyagraha

This opera presents a dramatization of Gandhi's philosophy of non-violent resistance, depicting key moments in his life from 1896 to 1913 in South Africa. Satyagraha is the second part of Philip Glass’s Portrait Trilogy, which highlights influential figures throughout history.

The production was originally staged by Phelim McDermott during the 2007–08 season at The Metropolitan Opera, where it was notable for its innovative use of materials such as newspaper and corrugated tin. The 2011 HD recording features a remarkable performance by tenor Richard Croft in the role of Gandhi, supported by a talented ensemble cast including Kim Josephson and Alfred Walker, all conducted by Dante Anzolini.
