Poor girl

The story follows Marie Růžová, an illegitimate child raised by the Bořický miller. Her childhood is intertwined with Klement, the miller's son, who eventually becomes a lawyer and marries Jirina. In a bid to escape her troubled life and avoid further conflicts, Marie secretly moves to Prague, where she faces significant hardships working as a waitress.

As Marie navigates her difficult circumstances, she encounters the architect Jansky, who subjects her to various insults. The film delves deep into her despair, culminating in a tragic decision that highlights the struggles faced by women in that era. With its rich narrative rooted in literature, "Poor Girl" presents a compelling look at personal and societal conflicts through its characters' journeys.
