Pretty Baby is something of a curious piece from the late 70s. It’s set in a New Orleans brothel, capturing a really gritty atmosphere that's hard to shake off. The cinematography has this soft, almost ethereal quality that contrasts sharply with its themes of innocence and exploitation. Brooke Shields delivers a performance that’s both haunting and tender, particularly given her age at the time. The pacing feels deliberate, allowing moments to linger, which can be both captivating and unsettling. The '70s vibe is palpable, from the costumes to the soundtrack. It’s definitely a film that sticks with you, not just for its visuals but for the moral questions it dances around.
