The film originated from Monk's live stage work in 1976 and was captured on 16mm at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in 1977. This collaboration with the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts aims to preserve groundbreaking performances for future generations.

The narrative follows a sick American child, portrayed by Monk, whose experience of illness parallels the rise of a dictator. This powerful exploration is further enriched by a film-within-a-film directed by Monk in 1975. Quarry serves as both a document of an avant-garde performance and a standalone artistic statement.
