So, Rafathar is this interesting little Indonesian comedy family film from 2017. Directed by Bounty Umbara, it takes a pretty wild concept of a baby with telekinetic powers. Jonny Gold and Popo Palupi, the main characters, are thieves who get hired to kidnap this baby from a rich family. The humor is a bit slapstick at times, but it has a quirky charm to it. The pacing is uneven, sometimes dragging a bit, but the practical effects used to showcase little Rafathar’s powers add a unique layer. There’s this undercurrent of family themes woven throughout, making it an odd blend of heist and heart. The performances have that classic comedic flair that you don't see often in Western films.
