Rigoletto - Festival d'Aix-en-Provence

This performance of Rigoletto marks the first time the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence has produced this work. Conducted by Verdi expert Gianandrea Noseda and featuring the London Symphony Orchestra, this film captures a significant cultural event.

Renowned Canadian stage director Robert Carsen returns to the festival after a 17-year absence, bringing a fresh perspective to this opera based on Victor Hugo's play, Le roi s’amuse. The story follows the Duke of Mantua, his hunchbacked jester Rigoletto, and Rigoletto's daughter, Gilda, navigating themes of libertinism and tragedy.
