Riot (2015) is one of those films that makes you a bit uneasy. The whole premise of Copper Jack Stone faking a bank heist to get himself into prison is intriguing, but it’s the atmosphere that stands out. The tension is palpable, especially when Stone interacts with Balam, the Russian kingpin. You can really feel the weight of Balam’s influence, even from behind bars. The pacing has its moments of chaos and calm, allowing you to breathe just before the next burst of action hits. Practical effects here are solid, adding a layer of grit. The performances are a mixed bag, but they work for the gritty tone. It’s not without its flaws, but that just adds to the rough charm of this action flick.
Intriguing premise of orchestrated prison entry.Strong atmospheric tension throughout.Practical effects lend to its gritty feel.
