Rite & Expression

Originally designed as an eight-monitor installation, Rite & Expression offers an impressionistic view of the cultural history surrounding Our Lady of the Rosario Church. This Baroque church is located in Minas Gerais, Brazil, and has deep historical ties to the African slave community.

The installation incorporates natural materials such as earth, wood, stone, and gold, as well as inks and paints. It draws on various aspects of human experience, including the Rosario Feast and traditional African garments and ritual objects. The electronic reconstruction highlights the church's Italian influence and its round shapes, symbolizing both Baroque design and African cultural rituals.
