Rocks (2003) is a charming little animated film from Heidi Wittlinger that does its own thing. The story follows Hew and Kew, two stone-people just chilling on their mountain while life unfolds in the valley below. The vibe is laid-back, with a whimsical sense of humor that feels distinctly European. It's not flashy, but the character design has a simplicity that works surprisingly well, letting the themes of existentialism and discovery take center stage. The pacing is gentle, allowing moments of reflection to breathe. Unique in its approach, it contrasts the mundane with the monumental shifts of human invention, which is pretty clever. It’s a film that, while perhaps not widely known, has a distinct voice.
