Rogue is one of those flicks that captures the raw menace of nature without too much gloss. Greg McLean really nails the isolation of the Australian outback. The tension builds nicely, with a slow burn that eventually gives way to some intense moments. The practical effects on the crocodile stand out amongst a sea of CGI-heavy films. The performances are solid, especially Radha Mitchell, who anchors the group of tourists caught in a dire situation. There's a real sense of dread throughout, with the water rising and darkness creeping in. It’s not just about the creature; it’s about survival against an unforgiving environment. If you’re into creature features with a bit more grit, this one’s worth a look.
