Romance from the Tatra Mountains

In this film, ironsmith Pavel navigates the complexities of family and romance as he raises his son Janko and orphan Anuška in the Tatra Mountains. Janko spends his summers tending to sheep while Anuška contends with the advances of Jura. Their lives take a turn when Janko meets Soňa Varenová, a city woman seeking tranquility, who becomes the object of his affection.

The village buzzes with gossip as Janko starts to neglect Anuška in favor of Soňa. Tensions rise when Pavel intervenes, urging Soňa to leave Janko for Anuška, which she reluctantly agrees to do, despite her own feelings. The story reaches a climax at a festival, where Janko must confront the consequences of his choices and seek forgiveness from Anuška, culminating in a poignant reconciliation in the mountains.
