Ruby and Rata

The film follows Ruby, an 83-year-old woman who is determined to avoid a retirement home. She rents a room to Rata, a solo mother balancing her musical aspirations with benefit fraud. Their relationship becomes complicated as they navigate the struggles of their lives in a deregulated economy.

Ruby's nephew adds another layer to the story as he embodies the struggles of a hapless yuppie wannabe. With Rata's son involved in arson and shoplifting, the film presents a vivid portrayal of marginalized characters in the late '80s. The interactions between these characters highlight their shared challenges and the unexpected connections they form despite their differences.
