Rusty House (1982) is this really odd blend of animation and horror, and it's kind of fascinating. I mean, the whole premise stems from Hiroyuki Kakudo's paper animation—so you get this hand-crafted, tactile feel that’s pretty rare for its time. The pacing is deliberately slow, which lets the unsettling atmosphere build; it kinda draws you in, makes you uneasy. The practical effects are surprisingly effective, using that paper medium to create some eerie visuals that you don’t often see in animated features. There's this haunting quality in the performances, too, even though they're just animated figures. Overall, it’s a distinctive piece that stands out for its unique approach to both storytelling and animation techniques.
