Sailor Stories

This documentary provides a unique glimpse into the lives of several sailors who navigate the complex waters of the Black Sea. The narrative follows Alexander, who has to destroy his ship as part of an EU program and begins constructing a new vessel the next day. It also features Dimitar, a sailor with 45 years of experience, who has chronicled his seafaring life with a VHS camcorder since 1987.

The film tells the story of Hristo, whose fishing vessel was seized in 2012 due to poaching allegations, leading to a prolonged legal battle. Additionally, Zoya and Plamen, teachers by day, venture into the sea in their fishing boat to catch rapa whelks, with Zoya serving as the captain and Plamen as the diver. Sailor Stories encapsulates the resilience and determination of those whose lives are intertwined with the sea.
