The narrative unfolds on the eve of Macau's return in 1999, as sculptor Gu Songlin travels to Macau to retrieve the sculpture known as "The Flourishing Lotus," a gift from the Central Government. His journey leads him to form a meaningful friendship with Liao Jichang, the head of the Liao Ji Wood Sculpture Store.
