Shadow Puppet

Set against the backdrop of one of China’s designated Intangible Cultural Heritage arts, the film follows Da Jiang, a performer in the Kunqu opera troupe "Wufeng Ban." His journey is marked by unrequited love for fellow performer Tianyin, who is engaged to their senior, Changhong. Da Jiang's discovery of shadow puppets and an old script ignites his passion for this traditional art form.

As the narrative unfolds, Da Jiang steps up to fill in for Changhong during a critical performance, earning Tianyin's gratitude but also stirring rumors among their peers. This leads him to withdraw from the situation to avoid conflict, prompting Tianyin and Changhong to move to Shanghai while Da Jiang retreats to Yanguan Town. Here, he commits himself to reviving the ancient art of shadow puppetry by founding his own troupe, "Jianghai Ban." This exploration of love and artistic dedication offers a unique glimpse into the cultural landscape of China.
