Shanghai Knights is a curious mix of Western and Eastern action, the sequel to the original Shanghai Noon, but it’s got its own flavor. The chemistry between Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson is solid, they play off each other well. The film has this breezy pacing that makes it easy to watch, even if the plot is a bit thin at times. You get a sense of adventure, especially with the London backdrop, which adds a unique dimension to the story. The practical effects and fight choreography are classic Chan, with that playful flair we expect. It’s a fun ride, but it definitely leans more into comedy than the first one did, and it’s interesting to see how they handle the themes of family and honor amidst all the silliness.
