Shell is one of those films that really draws you into its moody landscape. The atmosphere is thick with isolation, capturing the desolation of a dwindling life. The pacing is deliberate, mirroring Shell’s own stagnant existence as she juggles the responsibilities of her dying father and the crumbling petrol station. The performances here are raw; the connection between Shell and her father feels genuine and fraught with tension. There's a haunting beauty in the cinematography, too. You can't help but feel the weight of Shell's emotional burden as she navigates her trapped existence. It's a quiet film, but it leaves an impression, exploring themes of abandonment and the struggle for connection amidst the stark, lonely backdrop.
