Shop Girls of Paris

The narrative centers on M. Baudu, a fabric shop proprietor who struggles to keep his business afloat in the face of competition from a department store across the street. As the first of its kind in the area, this new retailer poses a serious threat to Baudu's livelihood.

Complicating matters, Baudu's niece, Denise, moves in with him after being orphaned. Recognizing the peril his business is in, she decides to work for the rival department store. Her decision creates tension within the family, as her success at the competitor raises questions about loyalty and survival in a rapidly changing market.
