Shostakovich: Katerina Izmailova

This opera consists of four acts and is based on the libretto by Shostakovich himself, in collaboration with Alexander Preis. It draws inspiration from Nikolai Leskov's "Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District". The first performance took place in Moscow at the Stanislavsky-Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre on January 8, 1963.
