Sleepwalking offers a raw look at desperation and the complexities of familial bonds. Joleen's character grapples with her poor choices, while her brother James, played with an almost weary authenticity, struggles with his own inability to rise to the occasion. The pacing is deliberately slow, which might not be for everyone, but it effectively captures the stifling atmosphere of their lives. It’s a film that feels very much like a slice of life, with a gritty realism that’s amplified by solid performances from a small cast. The handling of child welfare themes adds a layer of tension, and the small-town setting enhances the feeling of entrapment. Not a feel-good watch, but there's something evocative about its honesty.
