Snow Cake is this quiet little gem that delves deep into human connections. The film weaves a unique friendship between a high-functioning autistic woman, played by the always captivating Sigourney Weaver, and Alan Rickman’s character, who is grappling with a recent trauma. The pacing feels deliberate, allowing us to soak in the nuances of their interactions. The snowy Canadian backdrop almost acts as a character itself, enhancing the emotional weight. Performances are top-notch, especially Weaver's, which is both touching and raw without going overboard. It’s not flashy, but that’s what makes it distinctive – a subtle exploration of grief, acceptance, and the sometimes unexpected bonds we form. Definitely worth a look if you appreciate character-driven narratives.
