Song of the Sea

Set in Ireland, Song of the Sea centers on Ben and his younger sister Saoirse, the last Seal Child, who must return to their seaside home to save fairy creatures from fading away. After their mother’s mysterious disappearance, the children move to the city to live with their grandmother, but the pull of the ocean and ancient tales soon draws them back to a magical world hidden beneath everyday life.

The film’s production involved notable collaboration between Irish and European studios including Cartoon Saloon, Melusine Productions, The Big Farm, and Superprod Animation. Director Tomm Moore, co-founder of Cartoon Saloon, pursued a hand-drawn style to evoke traditional Irish art and storytelling.
