So, 'Splendore' from 2020, it takes us back to the USSR days, 1979 to be exact. You’ve got this guy who meets a girl at some party, you know the drill. She’s a hairdresser, he’s working at a meat-processing plant, pretty mundane stuff. But then, they have a kid, and it’s like this window into their lives as they transition into a family. Fast forward to 2004, and their son is now a lyric poet, though he still ends up in the same grimy world as his dad. The pacing feels a bit off at times, but there's this haunting atmosphere that lingers, and the performances really ground it all. Practical effects are minimal, but the story's depth makes it distinct. Worth a look for sure.
Explores familial dynamics in a changing society.Strong character development through subtle storytelling.Captures the essence of post-Soviet life and aspirations.
