Star of Hong Kong

The film follows Wang Xinglian, who returns to Hong Kong from Japan to visit her father. During her visit, she meets Hasegawa Toru, a young Japanese man, and they fall in love during a holiday in Hokkaido. As Wang grapples with her feelings and her studies, the story unfolds with a series of encounters that test their relationship.

Wang's ambivalence is heightened by her best friend Sugimoto Kanako's feelings for another man. In an attempt to focus on her studies, Wang feigns an engagement with her friend Zhang Yingming to break things off with Hasegawa. After graduating, she moves to Singapore, leading to a series of misunderstandings.

Ultimately, their love story culminates in a dramatic reunion and proposal in Kuala Lumpur, only to be thwarted by life’s circumstances. Wang must return to Hong Kong to care for her ill father, while Hasegawa prepares to move to America for his career, leaving their future uncertain.
