Stringer (2007) is this odd little sci-fi piece that really sinks its teeth into the uncanny. The atmosphere is thick with tension as our protagonist, a photo-journalist, comes back to a New Zealand that’s not quite right. The whole plague-like infection angle adds a layer of dread, you can almost feel the unease in the air. Pacing is a bit uneven, but it kind of works, building up to those gut-wrenching moments. The practical effects have that gritty charm that makes B movies so fun; they offer a rawness that CGI just can’t replicate. Performances? They’re solid, bringing humanity into a wild scenario. It’s distinctive in its blend of body horror and social commentary, definitely something to discuss amongst fellow collectors.
Interesting exploration of societal collapse.Practical effects stand out for their rawness. The pacing can be jarring but adds to the tension.
