The film follows Mark Late, whose seemingly ordinary life in 1968 masks the extraordinary experiences that shape him. Through his witty perspective, viewers encounter the social and political landscape of Poland during the banana era of Gierek, the election of the Pope-Pole, and the tumultuous period of martial law.

As an eighteen-year-old, Mark navigates personal challenges, including a failed exam for the School of Theater and a subsequent stint in the army, from which he deserts. His journey takes a turn when he finally gains admission to the theater school of his dreams, where he meets influential figures and forms significant relationships, including a romance with his classmate Marta.
