Superman Returns is an interesting mix of nostalgia and modern storytelling. Bryan Singer takes a more emotional approach, exploring themes of abandonment and redemption, especially with Clark's return after years away. The practical effects, especially during flight sequences, are pretty impressive, giving a tangible feel to Superman’s powers. Brandon Routh's performance has a lot of heart and really channels that classic Christopher Reeve vibe. Lex Luthor, played by Kevin Spacey, feels like a throwback to the earlier films, but he’s got a fresh, menacing edge. It’s not without its pacing issues, but the atmospheric score by John Ottman really pulls you into the world. Overall, it’s a unique entry that sits somewhere between homage and a new direction for the character.
