Sword of the Beast

In Sword of the Beast, the protagonist Gennosuke, a low-level swordsman, becomes embroiled in a reform plot that leads to his betrayal by former comrades. This betrayal forces him into the wilderness, where he confronts his lost honor and struggles for survival.

While living in the wild, Gennosuke encounters a group of outlaws involved in illegal gold mining for the shogun. This new alliance provides him an opportunity to reclaim his name and honor amidst the chaotic backdrop of 19th-century Japan. Hideo Gosha’s direction brings an intense focus to the themes of loyalty, betrayal, and the complexities of honor, staples of the jidaigeki genre.
