The film follows Jiří Mánka, a forty-year-old cashier at Živnostenská banka, who possesses both musical and artistic talents. Despite his stable job providing a good income, Jiří grapples with dissatisfaction as he yearns for a more fulfilling life. He lives with his mother and shares a close bond with his brother Teodor, united by their love of music.

A pivotal moment occurs when Jiří meets Adéla, a young and attractive girl who brings a sense of rejuvenation into his life. This chance encounter disrupts his routine and opens him up to new possibilities, challenging his current existence.
